In the village of Hayshyn in the Kyiv region, a mosaic emblem of the settlement was unveiled. This marks the first completed work within the new initiative by Hilka Media and the art collective “Zatyrka,” which aims to create mosaic emblems for Ukrainian villages and potentially expand to other regions of the country.

The mosaic was commissioned by local farmers who, according to the organizers, sought to support the development of Ukrainian culture and the preservation of cultural heritage in the regions.

The panel is crafted from smalt, marble, and ceramic tiles. The golden shield depicts a chestnut branch with leaves and fruit, two churches with azure domes and golden cupolas, and above them, a stork in flight. The shield is framed by a wreath of pine branches, crowned with ears of wheat and tied with an azure ribbon. The mosaic was created by artists Anastasia Lelyuk, Maria Polyakova, Vlad Vlasiuk, and Semen Maidaniuk.
“We are very proud that this happened right here, in Hayshyn. And we want this initiative to continue to develop, so that more villages have the opportunity to receive an emblem in mosaic form or other symbols relevant to the place,” said artist Anastasia Lelyuk.

Hilka Media notes that the mosaic emblem in Hayshyn is the beginning of a long-term project to create mosaic emblems for Ukrainian settlements.
“We take historical images of the emblems of Ukrainian villages, and the artists of ‘Zatyrka’ recreate them using mosaic techniques. At one time, mosaic art was an integral part of Ukrainian villages; it was used to decorate public buildings, and the appearance of such a panel signified that the village was developing. We are reviving this tradition in a new format through mosaic emblems,” said CEO and founder of the media outlet, Artur Hilka.

The project primarily focuses on small communities. According to the team, it is precisely these smaller settlements that most require attention and development, and the creation of mosaic emblems can contribute to the establishment of new cultural spaces.
Despite the fact that creating such works is an expensive process, Hilka Media emphasizes: “The preservation of cultural heritage is priceless.”
Currently, the initiative has launched in the Kyiv region, but the plan is to extend it to other regions of Ukraine in the future. The organizers also mention that any community can commission the creation of a mosaic emblem.
The art association “Zatyrka” is known for its implementation of several monumental art projects. Among them is the reproduction of Alla Horska’s mosaic “Boriviter,” the original of which was damaged by Russian occupants in Mariupol in 1967, as well as a mosaic panel covering over 100 square meters on the facade of the shopping center OBRIY Trypil in the city of Ukrainka, which the team claims is likely the largest modern mosaic created in Ukraine since Independence.
