Through the consequence of a massive Russian shelling of Ukraine’s energy facilities, as of the morning of June 2, a portion of consumers in Kyiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Cherkasy regions remain temporarily without electricity supply. However, the introduction of power outage schedules for domestic consumers and industry is not anticipated.
This was communicated by the press services of the Ministry of Energy and Ukrenergo.
The department detailed that, specifically in the capital, the shelling by Russia resulted in damage to the production site and infrastructure of an energy enterprise. Two energy workers sustained injuries, were transported to the hospital, and are receiving all necessary medical attention.
Furthermore, the Russian army targeted facilities within the oil and gas sector, leading to documented infrastructure damage. No personnel were harmed. Rescue and operational services are actively working to mitigate the aftermath of the attack.
Electricity Consumption in Ukraine
According to Ukrenergo, electricity consumption has risen. Today, June 2, as of 9:30 AM, it was 8.2% higher than at the same time on the previous day – Monday. The reason for this change is cloudy weather and rain in parts of western and southwestern Ukraine. This reduces the efficiency of domestic solar power stations and consequently increases the demand for energy from the main grid.
Yesterday, June 1, the daily consumption peak was recorded in the evening. It was 1.6% higher than the peak of the preceding workday – Friday, May 29. The cause is the typical increase in energy consumption at the beginning of the week. The company advised that active energy consumption today would be best shifted to the period of peak efficiency for industrial solar power stations – between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. They also requested that Ukrainians refrain from operating multiple high-power electrical appliances simultaneously during evening hours – from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Additionally, Ukrenergo emphasized that the situation within the energy system is subject to change and recommended monitoring updates on the websites and official social media pages of each regional energy company individually.
Massive Russian Strike on Ukraine on June 2
In the night preceding June 2, the Russian army launched a combined, massive assault on Ukraine, utilizing both missiles and drones. Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy were targeted. These bombardments resulted in casualties and injuries, as well as destruction.
As reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian army deployed 656 unmanned aerial vehicles of various types across Ukraine and launched 73 missiles launched from air, sea, and ground. In the course of air defense engagements, Ukrainian air defense neutralized 602 UAVs and 40 missiles. However, as a result of this Russian attack, impacts from 30 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and 33 attack drones were recorded at 38 locations, along with the falling debris of UAVs in fifteen areas.
